What Is Human Trafficking?
Human trafficking doesn’t always look like what we expect. It takes on many hidden forms, affecting men, women, and children in devastating ways. Here's a brief overview of the most common types of trafficking.

Sex Trafficking
Sex trafficking involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to exploit someone for commercial sex. Victims are often manipulated, threatened, or physically abused, and may be trafficked through escort services, pornography, street prostitution, or online platforms.
Labor Trafficking
Labor trafficking occurs when individuals are forced to work under abusive, exploitative conditions with little to no compensation. This often includes agriculture, construction, domestic work, or factory jobs, with victims held through debt, threats, or deception.
Gang Trafficking
Gangs use trafficking as a profitable enterprise, often targeting minors. Victims may be forced into sex work, drug distribution, or other illegal activity, trapped by threats, violence, and manipulation.
Familial Trafficking
In familial trafficking, a relative or caregiver exploits a child or family member—often in exchange for money, drugs, or other favors. This form of trafficking is deeply hidden and devastatingly common in vulnerable households.
Organ Trafficking
Organ trafficking is the illegal trade of human organs for transplant. Victims—often poor or marginalized—are deceived, coerced, or even abducted, and forced to give up organs under unsafe, unregulated conditions.
Child Exploitation
Children are trafficked for sex, labor, illegal adoption, and criminal activity. Grooming often begins online or within communities they trust. Many victims don’t even know they’re being trafficked.
Forced Marriage
Victims—often girls and young women—are married off against their will, sometimes for family gain or cultural control. They face lifelong abuse, control, and exploitation under the guise of marriage.
